If a steel tray piled with lobster tail, snow crab and butter-soaked king scallops has crossed your South Wales feed lately, there's a decent chance it came out of The Rock & Scallop.

It started as a pop-up
Owner Mathew ran Rock & Scallop as a string of pop-ups across South Wales during lockdown. The last of those was at The Golden Cups in Southerndown. After that the brand settled into Swansea's Albert Hall food hall, and when people kept driving over from the east, a second counter opened in Newport Market on 10 June 2026.

The £85 tray everyone films
The Deluxe Seafood Boil for two is the dish that ends up on Instagram: a full lobster tail, a snow crab cluster, wild XXXL king prawns, half-shell XL king scallops, more king prawns, mussels, spicy sausage, corn and baby potatoes. You pick one of three butters, signature garlic, Louisiana cajun or firecracker. Gloves come free.
Our take: go firecracker. Regulars keep recommending it, and with that much shellfish a garlic butter can taste a bit flat by the bottom of the tray.

Order the scallops
It's in the name, so it's no surprise the scallops are the strongest single plate. Half-shell XL king scallops come with crispy chorizo, black pudding and chilli jam for £14. That's a very Welsh-breakfast way to dress a scallop, and the salt and fat from the pudding make it work.

Weekday lunch for £17
The cheap way in is lunch. Until 5pm on weekdays the Classic boil for one costs £17 and the VIP costs £22. You get the same butter choices on a smaller tray, and it's a solid lunch for anyone working near either market.
